Born in 1996, he graduated from the Władysław Żeleński State Secondary Music School in Kraków, class of Olga Łazarska. Currently he is studying with Katarzyna Popowa-Zydroń at the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz. He has developed his abilities at courses taught by Arie Vardi, Dang Thai Son, Tamás Ungár, Vladimir Ovchinnikov, Dmitri Alexeev, Kevin Kenner, Bernd Goetzke, and others.
Jakub Kuszlik’s greatest achievement to date is the 2nd prize in the 10th International Paderewski Piano Competition in Bydgoszcz (2016), where he also won numerous special awards, including for the best performance of a piece by Fryderyk Chopin and for the best interpretation of Paderewski’s work in the finale of the competition (the Concerto in A Minor, which he will also play tonight). Jakub Kuszlik has also won prizes in numerous other international and nationwide competitions, such as the International Competition for Young Pianists “Arthur Rubinstein in memoriam” in Bydgoszcz (2nd prize), as well as the Halina Czerny‑Stefańska and Ludwik Stefański Piano Competition in Płock (Grand Prix).
In 2015 he was a “Estrada Młodych” laureate and recipient of a special award for the best performance of a piece by Karol Szymanowski at the 49th Polish Piano Festival in Słupsk. He has also given concerts during the Arthur Rubinstein International Music Festival in Łódź, the Silesian Ludwig van Beethoven Festival in Głogówek, and the International Festival of Young Prize Winners of Music Competitions in Katowice. In 2017 he gave a Chopin recital at the Władysław Szpilman Studio of Polish Radio.
Outside Poland Jakub Kuszlik has performed, among others, in the United States, Japan, Vietnam, Germany, Italy, Greece, Norway, and Iceland. His forthcoming schedule includes concerts in the USA during the Paderewski Festival Raleigh (North Carolina) and three appearances in New York.
The artist holds scholarships from the Czarnecki Family Foundation and the President of the City of Bydgoszcz.
