« With superlative virtuosity, François Lazarevitch and his musicians whirl the listener away, leaving him with his head in the stars. » (Philippe Venturini, Classica)
Formed in 2005 by the flautist François Lazarevitch, the baroque music ensemble Les Musiciens de Saint-Julien performs major works of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries (Bach, Vivaldi, Lully, Charpentier), while at the same time highlighting little-explored musical heritages, such as the air de cour, the court musette repertoire, and early Scottish and Irish music.
The ensemble invites the listener to rediscover repertoires of the past, performed with vibrancy and immediacy, and nourished by thorough knowledge of early treatises and the practice of oral tradition.
Les Musiciens de Saint-Julien appear both in France and abroad, with forthcoming concerts at Rennes Opéra, the Chapelle de la Trinité and the Maison de la Radio in Paris, the Bayerischer Rundfunk Studio Franken and Musikfestspiele Potsdam Sanssouci (Germany), the MAfestival Brugge (Belgium) and the Poznan Baroque Festival (Poland).
Les Musiciens de Saint-Julien have made eight recordings for the Alpha label, all of which have received high critical acclaim (Diapason d'Or, Choc de Classica, etc.). Their latest CD, devoted to the Flute Sonatas of J. S. Bach, received the highest rating from the music magazine Classica: « This version gœs straight to the top of the best recordings list » (May 2014).
Two exceptional programmes are due for release on CD in December 2015 and March 2016. The first one, Joseph est bien marié, presents some of the finest Baroque noëls and is performed with the Maîtrise de Radio France on the Radio France label. The second one, The High Road to Kilkenny is devoted to early Irish music on the Alpha label.
Les Musiciens de Saint-Julien receive structuring assistance from the French Ministry of Culture and Communication - DRAC Haute-Normandie, and support from the Haute-Normandie Regional Council.
Mécénat Musical Société Générale is the ensemble's principal patron.
