Mo Krzysztof Urbański will lead the Philharmonic ensembles for the next four years
The Warsaw Philharmonic wishes to announce that from the 2024/2025 artistic season there will be a change in the position of Music & Artistic Director of the Warsaw Philharmonic. The position will be held by maestro Krzysztof Urbański, who will lead the Philharmonic’s ensembles for the next four years, up to the end of the 2027/2028 season.
‘I am very excited to start working with the Warsaw Philharmonic’, says Krzysztof Urbański. ‘It is an even greater joy and honour for me, as it was on Jasna Street that I began my career. I would like the next few years at the Philharmonic to be modern, open and filled with a positive spirit, so that music lovers will come here and feel at home, and so that the atmosphere and energy of the Concert Hall will attract listeners and make them want to return again and again. I believe it will be a good time!’
Urbański’s concert plans for the next four seasons look very interesting and intense. He will be conducting the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra more than 20 times, in repertoire ranging from classicism to contemporary music.
According to Wojciech Nowak, Director of the Warsaw Philharmonic: ‘The Warsaw Philharmonic is entering a new era. I am looking forward to working with the new Artistic Director. Krzysztof Urbański combines bold, modern ideas with respect for tradition and an awareness of the sources. He is charismatic, open-minded and ready for action’.
On the initiative of maestro Krzysztof Urbański, the position of Principal Guest Conductor will be created at the Warsaw Philharmonic, with maestro Christoph König assuming the role from the 2024/2025 season for three years.
‘I was delighted to accept the position of Principal Guest Conductor of the Warsaw Philharmonic’, says Christoph König. ‘I have been a frequent guest of this wonderful orchestra in recent years and have always felt welcomed and warmly received. The sensitivity and respect of the musicians, combined with their artistry, delight me every time. The Warsaw audience is also one of the most, if not the most, sensitive I have ever encountered’.
