Łukasz Borowicz
Artistic Director of the Tadeusz Szeligowski Poznań Philharmonic and chief conductor of the Poznań Philharmonic Orchestra, principal guest conductor of the Karol Szymanowski Philharmonic in Krakow. In the years 2007–2015, he was the artistic director of the Polish Radio Orchestra in Warsaw, and in the years 2006–2021, he was the principal guest conductor of the Poznań Philharmonic Orchestra.
The artist has been awarded the Polityka’s Passport (2008), Coryphaeus of Polish Music Award (2011), the Cyprian Kamil Norwid Award (2013), the Tansman Award (2014) and the Honorary Award of the Polish Composers’ Union (2021). He has conducted, among others: Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra, Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, RIAS Kammerchor Berlin, WDR Sinfonieorchester, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Bamberger Symphoniker, Orquesta Titular del Teatro Real, Orchestre de l’Opéra national de Paris, PKF − Prague Philharmonia, Prague Symphony Orchestra (FOK), and most Polish symphony orchestras.
As an opera conductor, he debuted with a production of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Don Giovanni at the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera in Warsaw, where he has since conducted over 200 opera and ballet performances. Since 2008, he has been presenting unknown and forgotten operas at successive editions of the Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival in Warsaw. In 2018, he became the first Polish conductor in history to appear on the stage of the Paris Opera, conducting a performance of Giacomo Meyerbeer’s Les Huguenots at the Opéra Bastille. In 2019, at the Theater an der Wien, he conducted the premiere of Stanisław Moniuszko’s Halka, directed by Mariusz Treliński and featuring, among others, Piotr Beczała; the Polish premiere of this production under his baton took place a year later at the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera in Warsaw. In 2023, the conductor gave the world premiere of Krzysztof Meyer’s opera Dead End (Ślepy tor) at the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera.
Łukasz Borowicz’s discography includes more than 150 CDs, many of which have received accolades such as the ICMA award (three times), the Diapason d’Or (four times). The artist is a professor at the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Krakow.
