Mateusz Zajdel
Graduate of the Faculty of Vocal and Acting at the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw (now the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music). He honed his skills under the guidance of Roman Węgrzyn, Kaludi Kaludov, Helena Łazarska, Ryszard Karczykowski and Jagna Sokorska-Kwiki, among others.
From 2008 to 2017, he was a soloist with the Warsaw Chamber Opera and is currently associated with the Polish Royal Opera. He also collaborates with the Silesian Opera in Bytom, Baltic Opera in Gdańsk and Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera in Warsaw where he has taken part in dozens of productions (including Lucrezia Borgia, Lucia di Lammermoor, Roberto Devereux by Gaetano Donizetti, La Traviata, Don Carlo, Attila, La forza del destino by Giuseppe Verdi, Turandot, Madame Butterfly by Giacomo Puccini, Der fliegende Holländer, Lohengrin by Richard Wagner, Iolanta by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Boris Godunov by Modest Mussorgsky, Guillaume Tell by Gioachino Rossini and The Haunted Manor by Stanisław Moniuszko). He has also performed at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe and La Monnaie in Brussels, among others.
He has worked with conductors such as Łukasz Borowicz, Gabriel Chmura, Jacek Kaspszyk, Michał Klauza, Tadeusz Kozłowski, Igor Dohovič, Valery Gergiev, Andriy Yurkevych, Stefan Soltész or Heiko Mathias Förster and directors: Mariusz Treliński, Marek Weiss-Grzesiński, Barbara Wysocka, Michał Znaniecki, David Pountney, Jorg Lavelli, André Heller-Lopes and Krystyna Janda. He has performed with, among others, the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice, the Polish Radio Orchestra in Warsaw, the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, the Beethoven Academy Orchestra, the Slovak State Philharmonic Košice and the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra.
His repertoire includes the roles of Nemorino in Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore, Ferrando in Così fan tutte, Gomatza in Zaide, Pedrilla in Die Entführung aus dem Serail and Podesta in La finta giardiniera by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ishmael in Nabucco and Alfredo in La Traviata by Verdi as well as Lensky in Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin. He also performs opera and operetta arias, as well as tenor parts in oratorio and symphonic works and songs.
