The Witold Lutosławski International Cello Competition in Warsaw was established in 1997 by the Foundation for the Promotion of Young Cellists. Six years since its last edition, the Competition is returning to the Warsaw Philharmonic. The Witold Lutosławski Competition has become one of the most important global events in the field of cello performance, attracting young musicians from dozens of countries around the world. The programme features all the cello works by Witold Lutosławski, including his Cello Concerto, performed with orchestra during the final. Also performed by the competitors, in front of a live audience, are other works from a wide-ranging repertoire including Johann Sebastian Bach and also Classical and Romantic compositions. The young cellists are judged by an international panel. Besides a host of interesting artistic interpretations, the Competition always guarantees plenty of emotion. The 12th Competition is organised by the Foundation for the Promotion of Young Cellists together with the National Institute of Music and Dance.
