The operatic singer Diana Damrau has appeared on many of the world’s leading stages, including the Opernhaus Zürich, Staatsoper Wien, Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, La Scala in Milan, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Royal Opera House in London and the Opéra national de Paris. She has won particular acclaim for her interpretations of Pamina and the Queen of the Night in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Rosina in Gioachino Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia, and Leïla in Georges Bizet’s Les pêcheurs de perles. The international press has been lavish in its praise. As the Italian music critic Elvio Giudici wrote in 2015: ‘Her magnificent virtuosity [...] – every sung passage, every note, every trill, every messa di voce grows and rises towards an expressive chiaroscuro that reaches deep into the soul, constantly poised between joy and melancholy’.
The artist is equally highly regarded as a recital performer. Her programmes of Romantic Lieder enjoy great popularity and attract large audiences. At this song recital at the Warsaw Philharmonic, she will be joined by Helmut Deutsch, an experienced collaborative pianist with whom she has already recorded three albums: in 2006, a programme of works by Clara and Robert Schumann, Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Fryderyk Chopin and Ferenc Liszt; in 2011, an album of Liszt songs; and in 2018, Hugon Wolf’s Italienisches Liederbuch. Their outstanding artistic partnership will fill this magical, atmospheric evening with the powerful emotions inspired by the timeless beauty of the human voice.
