Ding Xiaokui
Musician in the wind section of the China National Traditional Orchestra (CNTO), playing a variety of instruments: flute, xiao (vertical bamboo flute), shakuhachi, xun (Chinese clay ocarina), paixiao (a type of Pan flute), bansuri, Irish tin whistle and others. He has won many awards, including silver medals at the CCTV National Instrumental Music Television Competition and the Spring International Jiangnan Sizhu Invitational Competition in Shanghai (2011), and a gold medal from the Ministry of Culture for Outstanding Folk Ensemble in 2013. He has toured extensively internationally with the CNTO.
The artist has collaborated with jazz pianist Kong Hongwei to form the Golden Buddha Jazz Band, combining different musical genres. He has also performed with Chinese lute (zhongruan) master Feng Mantian, with whom he formed the Mantian Quintet. Between 2019 and 2021, the ensemble has performed nearly a hundred times on a national tour. The ensemble’s concerts have been acclaimed at various music festivals in Europe and America.
