Krzysztof Malicki
Born in 1967, Krzysztof Malicki started to play the flute at the age of 10 under the tutelage of Marian Jamroży. He was a student of Jerzy Chudyba, who for many years was the first flautist of the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1989, he graduated from the flute class of Elżbieta Dastych-Szwarc at the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw. He also attended the master classes of many leading flautists, including Pierre-Yves Artaud, Robert Aitken, and Pieter Odé.
He is a versatile musician, who combines the qualities of an orchestral musician with the mastery of a chamber and solo performer. In 1988, he joined the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra where he has held the post of first flautist-soloist to this day. He has performed with the latter ensemble alongside many outstanding artists, including Jerzy Semkow, Stanisław Skrowaczewski, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Andrzej Boreyko, Jacek Kaspszyk, Antoni Wit, Kazimierz Kord, Mstislav Rostropovich, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Krystian Zimerman, Mischa Maisky, Nigel Kennedy, and Martha Argerich, among others.
In the years 1989–1993, he collaborated with the pianist Robert Skiera (concerts in both Poland and Germany). He was a member of the “Da camera” Woodwind Quintet (1991–1994), with which he has toured the USA twice as well as Germany, Czech Republic and Switzerland; their recording of the Polish Music album garnered a nomination for a Fryderyk Award. In the years 1995–2001, he was a member of the “Aulos” Wind Instruments Quintet (concerts in Poland and Germany).
As a soloist, he has performed with the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Kazimierz Kord, Andrzej Boreyko, Jacek Kaspszyk and Yaron Traub. Krzysztof Malicki has also acted as mentor to highly talented young flautists in master classes in Nowy Sącz, Białystok and Konstancin (Muzyczna Agrafka). He also organises musical events – he is a co-founder of a series of concerts called “Muzyka u Wszystkich Świętych”, connected with the organ in one of the largest churches in Poland.
In 2011, Krzysztof Malicki received the Silver Cross of Merit from the President of the Republic of Poland.
