The Polish Music Scene is a programme of music organised by the National Institute of Music and Dance in collaboration with the Warsaw Philharmonic and financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. We present Polish artists and Polish compositions – particularly works not often performed. We wish to promote the performance of Polish music, inspire musicians to turn to this repertoire and generate interest among audiences in Polish musical output as broadly understood. The programme is open to instrumentalists and singers, soloists and chamber ensembles. The programmes featuring Polish music, selected via a competition, will be performed in the Chamber Music Hall of the Warsaw Philharmonic and at other concert venues around Poland.

Ciepliński/Bies Duo

Andrzej Ciepliński and Tymoteusz Bies are outstanding representatives of the young generation of Polish musicians, valued both as soloists and chamber musicians. They are among the most distinctive and original artistic personalities on the contemporary music scene in Poland. Both artists are winners of prestigious awards in national and international solo and chamber music competitions, and their artistic achievements include extensive concert and recording activities. At the same time, they are also involved in teaching – Andrzej Ciepliński is a lecturer at the Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, and Tymoteusz Bies at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice. They began working together while studying at the academy in Katowice, which they both graduated from with honours, winning the prestigious Primus inter pares title for the best graduate. Already during their studies, they performed together and won awards in national competitions and chamber music auditions. After a few years’ break, the artists returned to working together in 2022, releasing their debut album Irrberge. The album, featuring works by Krzysztof Penderecki, Mieczysław Weinberg, Claude Debussy and Francis Poulenc, was enthusiastically received and won, among others, a nomination for the Fryderyk 2023 phonographic award in the ‘Album of the Year Chamber Music – Duets’ category.

In the near future, the duo plans to release a complete set of Johannes Brahms’ sonatas for clarinet and piano.
