“A long time ago and far, far away there once was a boy who loved music…”. This is not a fairy tale but the lyrics of a song telling the story of one of the greatest musicians of all time, who, just like many a hero from a fairy tale, travelled the world to seek his fame and fortune at a royal court far away from his native land. How did our hero manage to win the heart of his adopted sovereign and his subjects? With what ideas did he delight and surprise his listeners? Were the years he spent on this great island all a bed of roses? Which of his many melodies are still popular today? Prepare to hear a tale from three hundred years ago and learn about a true artist and his incredible life… meet Mr. Handel.
