Francesco Corti
Harpsichordist and conductor Francesco Corti studied organ in Perugia, then harpsichord in Geneva and in Amsterdam. He was awarded at the International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in Leipzig (2006) and at the Bruges Harpsichord Competition (2007).
As a soloist and conductor, he has appeared in recitals and concerts in all continents; he has performed at venues such as Thêatre des Champs-Elysées in Paris, Bozar in Brussels, Konzerthaus in Vienna, Philharmonie Berlin, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Mozarteum in Salzburg, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Teatro Real in Madrid, Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona, Tonhalle Zürich, and many others.
Since 2019, he has been principal guest conductor of Il Pomo d’Oro. Among other projects with this ensemble, he has conducted European tours of George Frideric Handel’s Orlando, Radamisto, Tolomeo and Berenice. He has been invited to lead ensembles such as Freiburger Barockorchester, Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Les Musiciens du Louvre, Kammerorchester Basel, B’Rock Orchestra. Since January 2023, he has been Musical Director at the Drottningholms Slottsteater.
Important events in the 2024/2025 season included Handel’s Alcina and Jeptha with Il Pomo d’Oro, Domingo Terradellas’ Merope with Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin and Domenico Cimarosa’s Il matrimonio segreto at Teatro San Carlo in Naples.
Francesco Corti’s solo recordings have been awarded with some of the most prestigious prizes worldwide, including Diapason d’Or de l’année, Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik, Grammophon’s Editor’s Choice, Choc de Classica. His latest solo album (Arcana label) is dedicated to Domenico Scarlatti. His latest CD, recorded with Il Pomo d’Oro (Arcana), is entitled The Age of Extremes and features works by Jiří Antonín Benda and J.S. Bach.
Since September 2016, he has been professor of harpsichord at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis.
