Il Pomo d'Oro
Il Pomo d’Oro, founded in 2012, is characterised by an authentic, dynamic interpretation of operas and instrumental works from the Baroque and Classical period. The musicians, all well-known specialists, are among the best in the field of historical performance practice. The ensemble has become known for its concert performances and recordings of many operas, and has worked with conductors such as Riccardo Minasi, Stefano Montanari, George Petrou, and Enrico Onofri. Concertmaster Zefira Valova leads the orchestra in various projects. Since 2016, Maxim Emelyanychev has been its Chief Conductor and since 2019, Francesco Corti is Principal Guest Conductor.
In the 2024/2025 season, the orchestra toured opera-in-concert productions of George Frideric Handel’s Alcina and Jephtha, and staged productions of Antonio Vivaldi’s Orlando furioso and Giovanni Battista Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater. The Il Pomo d’Oro Choir, with their conductor Giuseppe Maletto, performed a critically acclaimed programme of Carlo Gesualdo da Venosa’s Sacrae cantiones and Claudio Monteverdi’s Vespers. In recital, the ensemble joined forces with Michael Spyres, Pene Pati, Joyce DiDonato, and Jakub Józef Orliński as well as with Giovanni Sollima with whom Il Pomo d’Oro performed many times throughout Europe.
The 2025/2026 season sees tours of Monteverdi’s Il combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda, Handel’s Giulio Cesare, and Johann Sebastian Bach’s St John Passion. The orchestra will reunite with Anna Prohaska for a programme of J.S. Bach and Dietrich Buxtehude, and Jakub Józef Orliński for an Asian tour of Beyond. Maxim Emelyanychev has also led the orchestra in performances of Christmas Concerti Grossi across Europe.
