Rune Bergmann
Artistic director and chief conductor of the Szczecin Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra. He simultaneously serves as conductor of the Swiss Argovia Philharmonic and music director of the Canadian Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. His energetic personality, versatility and extensive repertoire – classical, romantic, opera, contemporary – place Rune Bergmann among the most talented young Scandinavian conductors.
In recent concert seasons, he has worked with renowned symphony and opera orchestras in North America (including Baltimore, Detroit, Edmonton, Houston, New Jersey, as well as the Pacific Symphony Orchestra and the New Mexico Philharmonic), while in Europe with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Oslo Philharmonic, Münchner Symphoniker, Orchestra della Svizzera italiana, Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa, Orquesta de València and Staatskapelle Halle, among others. He has also conducted productions of Mozart’s Il barbiere di Siviglia and Verdi’s La traviata at the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet and made his debut at the Yale Opera project in Claudia Solti’s production of Benjamin Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
In the 2022/2023 season, Rune Bergmann returned to the podium of the Baltimore, North Carolina and Malaga symphony orchestras as a guest conductor. He also made his debut with the recently formed ADDA Simfònica in Alicante (Spain).
In 2018, Rune Bergmann’s first recording with the Szczecin Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra was released, featuring Mieczyslaw Karlowicz’s Symphony in E minor ‘Rebirth’ – a work that has since become a highlight of the conductor’s repertoire.
Earlier in his career, Rune Bergmann served as first Kapellmeister and Deputy Music Director of the Theater Augsburg, and was also Principal Guest Conductor of the Kaunas City Symphony Orchestra, as well as initiator and artistic director of the innovative Norwegian festival Fjord Cadenza since its inception in 2010. He is also a talented multi-instrumentalist. He plays trumpet, piano, violin and viola, and his passion is jazz.
