Lukas Sternath
Born in Vienna in 2001, he was a member of the famous Wiener Sängerknaben with which he gave concerts on the most important stages in Europe, North America and Asia. He studied piano at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien with Anna Malikova and Alma Sauer and since 2022, he continues his musical training at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover in the class of Igor Levit. Further mentors include pianists Till Fellner, as well as Ingolf Wunder and Sir András Schiff, whose masterclasses he attended.
At the 71st ARD International Music Competition in Munich in September 2022, Lukas Sternath was awarded First Prize, as well as seven special prizes, including the Audience Prize. In 2023, he was nominated by Musikverein Wien, Konzerthaus Wien and Philharmonie Luxembourg for an ‘ECHO Rising Stars‘ programme of the European Concert Hall Organisation. In May 2025, BBC Radio3 has selected him as a ‘New Generation Artist’ for the two upcoming seasons.
In summer 2024, the pianist performed at the Salzburger Festspiele with the Mozarteumorchester Salzburg conducted by Ádám Fischer. In the current artistic season, his guest engagements include performances with the Sinfonieorchester Wuppertal (cond. Patrick Hahn), Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen (cond. Tarmo Peltoloski) and the ORF Radio-Symphonieorchester Wien (cond. Markus Poschner) as well as recitals at the Philharmonie Essen, the Musikverein Wien and the Gewandhaus Leipzig, among others.
In past seasons, Lukas Sternath performed at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, Tonhalle Zürich and at the Klavier-Festival Ruhr, with orchestras such as Bamberger Symphoniker (cond. Jakub Hrůša), Wiener Philharmoniker (cond. Patrick Hahn), Sommerakademie der Wiener Philharmoniker (cond. Tugan Sokhiev), SWR Symphonieorchester (cond. Giedrė Šlekytė) and Münchner Philharmoniker (cond. Andrés Orozco-Estrada).
