If one examines Serbian violinist Nemanja Radulović’s stage performances and recordings, one may gain the impression that he is a modern-day incarnation of the virtuosos of old, who were sometimes suspected of conniving with the powers of hell. After all, one of the ensembles founded by Radulović bears the provocative name Les trilles du diable (‘the devil’s trills’), referring to the famous sonata by Giuseppe Tartini. Radulović has been playing violin since the age of seven and was admitted to the Paris Conservatoire aged 14. He has recorded for major record companies and given concerts in famous halls and open-air venues associated not only with the world of classical music. In Warsaw, he will be performing as the soloist in Aram Khachaturian’s Violin Concerto in D minor. Premiered in 1940, this lengthy work is full of references to the traditional music of the Caucasus, which had inspired the composer since his childhood. A perfect introduction to the Serbian virtuoso’s performance will be Rolf Liebermann’s Furioso. This frenetic composition, which combines the form of an Italian overture with twelve-tone technique and ostinato, was presented with great success in the mid-twentieth century in Darmstadt – a Mecca for avant-garde artists. The concert will conclude with Witold Maliszewski’s Symphony No. 3 in C minor, which refers to classical models. Particularly noteworthy is the colourful instrumentation of the third movement, based on the form of a theme with variations.

Przemysław Neumann

Przemysław Neuman graduated from the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań, specializing in symphony and opera conducting. In 2002, he placed third in the 3rd Polish National Review of Young Conductors in Białystok. He has conducted numerous orchestras, including the Warsaw Philharmonic, philharmonic orchestras from various cities such as Białystok, Krakow, and Poznań, as well as Baltic Opera in Gdańsk and Toruń Symphony Orchestra.

While still a student, he began to collaborate with the Poznań Music Theatre, serving as conductor and director of its orchestra until 2013. Over nine concert seasons, he oversaw many premieres and conducted several hundred performances and concerts. He has also worked with the Grand Theatre of Poznań and the Gliwice Music Theatre.

After being awarded his doctoral degree in 2009, Przemysław Neumann embarked on an academic career in the Department of Conducting at the Academy of Music in Poznań, where he was the head of the department during 2019–2020. In 2017, he received the degree of Doctor habilitatus of Musical Arts and in 2019, the title of Professor of the academy. His alma mater has been a platform for many educational and artistic projects, such as concerts with the Academic Symphony Orchestra, which resulted in the release of a CD featuring music by Karol Kurpiński, performances with the Sinfonietta Orchestra (2009–2013) where he also served as artistic director, annual student opera performances at the Grand Theatre in Poznań, and concerts within the 'Kreaspiracje' series.

In 2015, Przemysław Neumann was appointed Director of the Józef Elsner Opole Philharmonic, marking the beginning of his efforts to revive long-forgotten Polish music. This led to the concert series titled ‘Polish Forgotten Music’, focusing mainly on pieces composed during the time of the Partitions, as well as a publication series of the same name. The scores and orchestral parts of works by composers such as Karol Kurpiński, Witold Maliszewski, Feliks Nowowiejski, and Zygmunt Noskowski were published in collaboration with the 'Dla Kultury' Foundation, established in 2016, of which Przemysław Neumann is the president. Together with the Opole Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, he recorded many CDs featuring the works of Polish composers.

As of 1 September 2024, Przemysław Neumann has been serving as the general and artistic director of the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic in Szczecin.
