Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Jacek Kaspszyk, in September 2023 will perform in six cities in China: Hangzhou, Wuhan, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Beijing.

The soloist in all six concerts on this tour will be Sa Chen, a Chinese pianist who won fourth place at the 14th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in 2000 and was part of the jury at the 18th edition of the Competition in 2021.

The Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra will present Chinese audiences with the Adagietto from Krzysztof Penderecki's opera Paradise Lost, Antonín Dvořák's Symphony No. 9 in E minor 'From the New World' and the Piano Concertos of Fryderyk Chopin: in E minor, Op. 11 (in Hangzhou, Shenzhen and Beijing) and in F minor, Op. 21 (in Wuhan, Guangzhou and Shanghai).

One of Poland’s foremost conductors, Jacek Kaspszyk has previously held positions as Artistic Director of the Warsaw Philharmonic, NFM Wrocław Philharmonic, Music Director of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice and of the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera in Warsaw as well as Principal Conductor and Music Advisor of the Noord Nederlands Orkest. He is also Principal Conductor of the Beethoven Academy Orchestra in Krakow.

Since his early success at the Herbert von Karajan Conducting Competition in Berlin, Jacek Kaspszyk has conducted many major orchestras throughout the world including Berliner Philharmoniker, Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Orchestre de Paris, Wiener Symphoniker, Oslo Philharmonic, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, and Czech Philharmonic.

This season he will be welcomed back to Symphoniker Hamburg as well as to Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, NFM Wrocław Philharmonic, Polish Baltic Philharmonic in Gdańsk and Poznań Opera House Orchestra. He also returned to conduct Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice at the Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival.

Highlights of the past seasons have been performances with the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra in Ostrava, Symphoniker Hamburg, Berner Symphonieorchester, Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra in Ljubljana, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestre national d'Île-de-France with pianist Louis Lortie. Jacek Kaspszyk is regularly invited to China, and in the past he has conducted the China Philharmonic Orchestra and symphony orchestras of Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Hangzhou.

Widely represented on CD, his recording of Lutosławski’s Symphonies Nos. 2 & 4 with the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic received the 2011 Fryderyk Award in the Best Symphonic and Concerto Music Album category. Recent recordings with the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir for Warner Classics include a critically acclaimed performance of Szymanowski’s Stabat Mater and Symphony No. 3, while his latest CD release (spring 2018) features Młynarski’s Symphony “Polonia”, Penderecki’s Polonaise and Weinberg’s Polish Melodies.

Jacek Kaspszyk has received the prestigious Elgar Society Medal in recognition of his many fine performances of Elgar̕s works. Following an all-Lutosławski programme for the Warsaw Autumn Festival in October 2013, he was awarded the Medal from the Witold Lutosławski Society.
